Marine Scotland (MSO) Geophysical and Multibeam Survey 2012/9_MS: Argyll Array: South-west of Tiree (22/Jul/2012 to 06/Aug/2012)
This marine geophysical and multibeam survey was undertaken in July/August 2012 off south-west Tiree by the British Geological Survey (BGS) on behalf of Marine Scotland on board the Northern Lighthouse Board vessel NLV Polestar. Sea floor bathymetry data were collected using a Kongsberg EM3002D multibeam system. Sub bottom seismic profiling data were collected using a surface tow boomer. The data are archived by BGS and are also available on Marine Scotland Interactive (MSI) - http://www.gov.scot/Topics/marine/science/MSInteractive/Themes/Renewables/Data. Multibeam bathymetry data are available from the UKHO Bathy DAC, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/inspire-portal-and-medin-bathymetry-data-archive-centre. Backscatter data are available from the backscatter layers in the BGS Offshore GeoIndex. Technical details of the survey are contained in BGS Report of Survey CR/12/099, https://nora.nerc.ac.uk/id/eprint/529501/. Geophysical equipment types used included: Surface Tow Boomer. British Geological Survey was contracted to undertake the survey on behalf of Marine Scotland. NAVIGATION: Applanix POS MV 320 system (GPS aided inertial navigation system that provides accurate attitude, heading, heave, position and velocity data) with DGPS corrections from a Fugro SeaSTAR receiver. BATHYMETRIC data was collected using a Kongsberg EM3002D dual head, multibeam system. Data was acquired using a Kongsberg SIS operating system, logging raw .ALL files. This data was processed offline by BGS using CARIS HIPS and SIPS 7.1 SP2. BACKSCATTER mosaics were created using Fledermaus GeoCoder FMGT. Backscatter data: ASCII; TIF images; XYZ. Fledermaus (.sd) available on request. GEOPHYSICAL data was collected using an Applied Acoustics Surface Tow Boomer (STB) and BGS Hydrophone summing amplifier and pre-filter. CODA DA2000 was used as the acquisition system and CODA GeoSurvey for processing. See BGS Report of Survey CR/12/099 for further information.
