Mini plugs were cut from these to a size of 10 mm in length and 5 mm in diameter. Each sample was then scanned at the London Natural History Museum Imaging and Analysis Centre using a Zeiss Xradia Versa 520 micro CT scanner. Polychromatic X-rays were used with an energy of 80 kV with a 5 second exposure window. Reconstruction of the data was performed using the Zeiss Reconstructor Sour-and-Scan software. This includes use of a filtered back projection algorithm with beam hardening correction.
