Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) Geophysical and Sampling Survey 2000/3_SAMS: Loch Etive (04/09/2000 to 07/09/2000)

This marine geophysical survey took place in September 2000 in Loch Etive on board the RV Calanus. The British Geological Survey (BGS) carried out the survey on behalf of Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS). Its purpose was to investigate Late Quaternary Sedimentation in a Glacially-Overdeepened Sea Loch. Sub bottom seismic profiling data were gathered using a surface tow boomer. Gravity cores were obtained but none are held by BGS. Technical details of the survey are contained in the Cruise Report. Statement

Geophysical equipment types used included: Surface Tow Boomer. British Geological Survey was contracted to undertake the survey on behalf of Scottish Association for Marine Science. NAVIGATION: Ship's Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), WGS84. SURFACE TOW BOOMER: Source: small catamaran towed approximately 10m astern on starboard side of vessel. Hydrophones towed from port side approximately 10-15m astern of vessel. Tow depth ~25cm. Power source was a CSP1000 power pack generating 300 joules, fired every half second. Processed (TVG, Bandpass Filter 600-2000Hz) data were displayed on a 'waterfall' CRT before being printed on a Waverley 3710 linescan printer. Unprocessed data were recorded in CODA format and output as SEGY. These data are available from BGS. SAMPLING: 3M gravity corer with 500kg weight (<50m water depth) or 250kg weight (<50m water depth), contact SAMS for these data or sample material - Not held by BGS. For more detailed information on the acquisition equipment and data collection techniques, operational standards, data processing methods and quality control procedures used on this survey see the Report of Survey/Cruise Report and associated documentation where available. The information available may vary depending on the age of the survey. Data are checked and loaded to the BGS Coastal and Marine data management system following BGS marine data management procedures.
