British Geological Survey (BGS) Geophysical and Multibeam Survey 2005/5_MESH: North Channel/Rockall Trough; CD174 (11/Aug/2005 to 08/Sep/2005)
This marine geophysical and multibeam survey took place in August and early September 2005 off the west coast of Scotland on board the RSS Charles Darwin (Cruise CD174) as part of the Mapping European Seabed Habitats (MESH) survey. The survey was carried out by the British Geological Survey (BGS). The area surveyed was in UK and Irish waters and lies between 55 and 57 Degrees North and between 8 and 14 Degrees West. This work was planned to integrate with existing UK, Irish and French multibeam data and also with multibeam data collected July-August 2005 during the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Strategic Environmental Assessment Surveys (SEAS) in the Rockall Trough. Seafloor bathymetry data were collected using a Simrad EM12 multibeam system. Subsurface seismic data were collected using an Airgun, Boomer, Pinger and Sparker. Magnetic and Gravity data were also collected. Technical details of the survey are contained in BGS Internal Report IR/05/132 ( http://nora.nerc.ac.uk/id/eprint/11136/). Geophysical equipment types used included: Airgun/Sleeve Gun, Echo Sounder, Gravimeter, Magnetometer, Pinger, Sparker and Surface Tow Boomer. The survey was undertaken by British Geological Survey. Multibeam data poor quality - see cruise report for details, http://nora.nerc.ac.uk/id/eprint/11136/. For more detailed information on the acquisition equipment and data collection techniques, operational standards, data processing methods and quality control procedures used on this survey see the Report of Survey/Cruise Report and associated documentation where available. The information available may vary depending on the age of the survey. Data are checked and loaded to the BGS Coastal and Marine data management system following BGS marine data management procedures .
