2001 Strategic Environmental Assessment SEA1 Charles Darwin cruise 123 (2000) - Environmental sampling survey. Data analysis report: total organic carbon/nitrogen, sediment hydrocarbons. ERT Report R00/215 (Faroe Shetland Channel)

As part of Strategic Environmental Assessment SEA1, sediment samples were collected at the request of the Department of Trade and Industry (now Department of Energy and Climate Change) from Charles Darwin between July and September 2000. Samples for a number of chemical and biological analyses were collected. The analysis undertaken on the sediment samples collected were: total organic carbon and total organic nitrogen; total hydrocarbon and n-alkane content; and 2 to 6 ring polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) content. Excel files containing the data are also available.

    Statement

Sediment samples were collected by Geotek Ltd from RRS Charles Darwin in summer between July and September 2000 (cruise 123) using various grabbing and coring equipment as part of the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change's Offshore Energy Strategic Environmental Assessment programme. The analyses was undertaken by ERT (Scotland) Ltd and resulted in the report being published in 2001. The analysis undertaken on the sediment samples collected by ERT (Scotland) Ltd (ERTSL) were: total organic carbon and total organic nitrogen; total hydrocarbon and n-alkane content by gas chromatography (GC); and 2 to 6 ring polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) content by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
