The site is located on the brow of the Lower Chalk escarpment at about 160 m OD (Figure 1). The principal section (Figure 2) was up to 14 m high and 300 m long aligned approximately N-S as shown on the 1:10, 560 map. The glacial deposits constituted the overburden on the Chalk. The description of the face, including black and white photographs, is as it was in 1950-1954. The colour photographs were taken on fleeting visits up to 1977 south of the 1950-1954 working. The photographs are referenced by BGS numbers and shortened to the last 3 figures.
