NERC Urgent Grant GST/02/2251. Database is currently under construction, but updates will be dependent on individual researchers. Iain Thornton, leads researcher of consortium, Environmental Geochemistry Research Group, Imperial College. Data will also be available on a Nottingham University based web site under construction by Neil Crout, Patchy distribution within Nottingham and Wolverhampton city boundaries, corresponding to brownfield sites that have been identified as having high metal levels, and that are available for sampling. For each type of chemical analyses that is carried out on a sample, procedures for sampling and preparation have been standardised across all research groups.

This dataset is generated entirely from the URGENT project "Studies into metal speciation and bioavailability to assist risk assessment and remediation of brownfield sites in urban areas", which was begun in October 1998 and will run for 2.5 years.
