Statement

Table S1 and S4: Tephra major elements were analyzed by Electron Probe (EPMA), using a JEOL JXA8530F Hyperprobe at the University of Bristol, a 2 nA beam current with a 10-µm spot size at a voltage of 15 kV was used. Table S3: A Hitachi S-3500N SEM at the University of Bristol was used to acquire back scatter electron images, taken at a working distance of ~20 mm and an accelerating voltage of 15 kV or 20 kV. Image analysis was carried out using the program Fiji (Table S3). Table S2 and S5: Tephra trace elements were analysed by Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), using a Thermo Scientific iCAPQ ICP-MS coupled to a Photon Machines analyte 193-nm eximer laser ablation system at Trinity College Dublin, a spot size of 30 microns and the repetition rate 10 Hz was used
