Grain Size data from a selection of tephra occurrences drilled at IODP Sites 350-U1436 and 350-U1437. (NERC grant NE/M005240/1)
120 samples of 57 tephra layers identified at IODP Expedition 350 sites (U1436 and U1437) were used in grain size analysis. Some layers have one grain size measurement, others have multiple measurements throughout the tephra layer.

Samples were dried, then set in epoxy in a thin walled sample ring, polished and carbon coated. Two sessions of analysis took place using the JEOL JXA8530F Hyperprobe, with analyses on 13/10/2014 using a focused beam with no TDI. Analyses on 13/11/2014 used a 4 micron beam with TDI counting for 10 intervals over time period, see third tab in Excel file for beam setup. Approximately 10-15 glass shards were analysed per sample. Data were filtered to remove results that were obviously not glass.
