Detrital zircon U-Pb ages from the Lower Jurassic of the Llanbedr (Mochras Farm) borehole, Wales

The dataset contains detrital zircon U-Pb ages for the Llanbedr (Mochras Farm) borehole, from the Lower Jurassic. The U-Pb zircon age analyses was carried out on the SHRIMP IIe/MC instrument (the sensitive high resolution ion microprobe) at the Polish Geological Institute, Warsaw. Data relate to the Llanbedr (Mochras Farm) Borehole drilled in 1967-1969 near the village of Llanbedr, NW Wales, SH 5533 2594. The aim for generating these data was to provide evidence for sediment provenance to the Llanbedr (Mochras Farm) site during the Early Jurassic. Publication in press, Jiang et al. Statement

The U-Pb zircon age analyses were conducted on the SHRIMP IIe/MC instrument (the sensitive high resolution ion microprobe) at the Polish Geological Institute, Warsaw, using a duoplasmatron as primary ion source. The measurements were performed during two independent cycle-sessions, but according to the same procedure and settings. Secondary ions were collected on a single electron multiplier by cycling the magnet through six scans on nine masses: 196Zr2O, 204Pb, 204.1 (as a background), 206Pb, 207Pb, 208Pb, 238U, 248ThO, and 254UO. Common-Pb corrections for unknown samples were based on measured 204Pb. The isotopic composition was calculated using the Pb isotopic evolution model of Stacey and Kramers (1975), and the time corresponding to the preliminary 206Pb/238U age was calculated using the default common-Pb compositions.
