Samples were analysed between September 2024 and October 2025, to determine changes in mineral chemistry during weathering. The operating conditions were 15 kv, 15 nA, 1 µm spot for Si, Fe, Ca, Al, Mn, F, Cl, P, S, Na, K, Ti, Sr, Ba, Nb, Zr, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Y and Ta; 15 kv, 100 nA, 1 µm spot for Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, U, Th and Pb. X-ray counts were converted to oxide concentrations using the inbuilt Jeol φρz correction programme. Astimex monazite grains were used as secondary standards, with results within 2% of published data. Samples were analysed either a polished thin sections, or as polished resin mounts (for disaggregated soil materials).
