The 4 EDX detectors are operated at very highcount rates and can analyse uneven surfaces with an imperfect polish. The spectra and BSE response can then be compared to a mineral database and classified according to a segmentation algorithm and set of rules defining compositional limits for each phase. Once classified, a fully rasterised image of individual phases can be exported for sample navigation and publication.
