Nitrogen geochemistry data of extrusive igneous rocks from Hekla volcano, Iceland
The data set contains major, trace element, and stable isotope (Si, Zn, Mo, V, Tl, Zr) from previous studies and new nitrogen abundance and stable isotope values for 17 samples spanning a range of igneous rock types (basalt, andesite, dacite, rhyolite). The samples are apheric extrusive volcanic rocks from Hekla volcano, Iceland.

We selected and measured 17 replicate (n = 2 to 4) Hekla samples for their bulk rock nitrogen abundance and stable isotope values (d15N = ((15N/14N)sample/(15N/14N)air – 1)*1,000) using a custom-built sealed tube combustion line. Bulk rock stable oxygen isotope values (d18O = ((18O/16O)sample/(18O/16O)VSMOW – 1)*1,000, where VSMOW = Vienna Standard Mean Ocean Water) were also measured by laser fluorination as a tracer for crustal assimilation and alteration. Major and trace element abundances and published isotope values were compiled from previous studies.
