It shows all boreholes (name, location and registration details) for which BGS hold borehole material (drillcore, cuttings, samples and their depth ranges). This data will add value to existing NERC (Natural Environment Research Council) data by allowing a simple route for users to identify borehole material from the Bowland-Hodder interval. The dataset has been compared to the publically released top and base Bowland-Hodder surfaces (Andrews et al., 2013) and materials extracted that fall within this depth interval. A 200 m lateral buffer was then applied to the Bowland-Hodder surfaces to account for data excluded through pixellation of the dataset. A reduced number of fields when compared to the original borehole materials database has been prepared, comprising borehole identifiers (Borehole name, Ordnance Survey quarter sheet, registration number), material held (Material, top metres, base metres) and locational data (British National Grid easting and northing).
