GlaciStore: A Summary of the Cross-Border Seismic Stratigraphic Interpretation, report from the North Sea Aquifers UKCCSRC Call 1 project (Feb 2013 - Aug 2015)
Project report 'A summary of the methodology for the seismic stratigraphic interpretation for the 'GlaciStore' bid to IODP' prepared by the lead organisation, British Geological Survey (BGS), with contributions from University of Edinburgh and BGS participants. The report describes the method followed and data followed for the interpretation of seismic, well, borehole and bathymetry data. The objective of the interpretation is to inform the selection of sites for a scientific drilling proposal and demonstrate the proponents have sufficient understanding of the proposed site. Future scientific investigation and interpretation of the data are also proposed. The interpretation was undertaken as the 'cross-border geology' component of the UK CCS RC Call 1 ‘North Sea Aquifers' project. The report is a pdf format file and is also available for download at http://nora.nerc.ac.uk/513372/. UKCCSRC Grant UKCCSRC-C1-30.

The report describes the data sources and method followed for the interpretation of the shallow subsurface geology, Mid Eocene to sea bed sequence, in the UK Central and Northern North Sea. The interpretation is based on existing data accessible within the duration of the project and to meet the timing and requirements of a bid to the Integrated Ocean Discovery Programme (IODP). The datasets used were: 2D and 3D seismic and well data acquired for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons, 2D seismic and borehole data acquired by BGS for regional geological survey, OLEX bathymetry acquired by commercial shipping. The datasets used are listed. Interpretations are illustrated of Quaternary strata in selected seismic profiles at three of the proposed drill sites. Interpretations of the Mid Eocene to sea bed sequence in a regional seismic profile, and regional maps of a near Mid-Miocene unconformity, a surface within the Eocene Horda Formation and the top Balder Formation surface. A regional velocity curve to inform conversion of the seismic data from two-way-travel time to true vertical depth from selected well data is plotted.
