British Geological Survey (BGS) 2015/1 Multibeam and Geophysical Survey: Northern area of Loch Long (02/Feb/2015 to 13/Feb/2015)

This marine multibeam and geophysical survey took place from 09/02/2015 – 18/02/2015 in the northern area of Loch Long on board the RV White Ribbon. The survey was carried out by the British Geological Survey (BGS). The aim of the survey was to look at areas of sedimentation and submarine slides. Sea floor bathymetry data were collected using a Kongsberg EM3002D multibeam system. Sub bottom seismic profiling data were collected using an Surface Tow Boomer. These data are archived by BGS. Technical details of the survey are contained in the BGS Report of Survey.

Geophysical equipment types used included: Surface Tow Boomer. The survey was undertaken by British Geological Survey. Bathymetric data on MV White Ribbon was acquired using a Kongsberg EM3002D multibeam echosounder system. Kongsberg Seafloor Information System (SIS) version 3.9.2 (build 187) was used for online data logging. A Trimble SPS461 and a Kongsberg Seatex Seapath 200 provided vessel position, heading and attitude. Offline data processing was performed using CARIS HIPS version 8.1.5. All of the systems generally performed well. A Surface Towed Boomer was used for seismic operations. See the BGS Report of Survey for further information. Raw coda files with a layback of 10m were recorded in the field therefore no navigation processing was required.
